TMI RAW MATERIAL SUPPLIERS

Currently TMI is buying raw material from various mines. These mines are 70 to 120km away from the plant. TMI also buys tailings from other plants and reprocess them.TMI is also in the process of finalising an exclusive offtake with a local community for the dump which was left by old mining operations. TMI desires to place yellow machines on the dump site so it prepares the raw material on dump site before trucking it to processing site. Acquisition of the dump will afford TMI greatest opportunity to secure consistency and wide options in terms of feed supplies to plant and also consistency to supply final chrome ore concentrate.

STRENGTH

TMI has able and pool of management that understand the commodity market very well and constantly following trends. Furthermore, TMI has built strong strategic alliance with local and international players in the industry. This has helped boost confidence with clients that want to do business with TMI. In addition, although this market is controlled by big mining houses, TMI has set its self as a go to supplier to clients that prefer to buy the products from source as its much cheaper: big mining houses do not allow clients to buy locally as it reduces their profit margins. This aspect becomes a winning trump card for TMI.

OPPORTUNITIES

Chrome is one of the most bought mineral. South Africa has huge deposits of this mineral and has made it an ideal area for the global markets to source chrome from. There is very limited number of chrome processing plants in the market; making this opportunity very feasible. The available plants don’t have capacity supply the required quantities needed by the clients. The demand for chrome is always higher than the supply component. Recently and more importantly, the main and big mining houses have been retrenching and lowering their production levels; this results in lower supplies and inevitably push the price higher as demand will be higher than supply.

THREATS

TMI procures its raw material from mines that are situated mostly in the rural areas. This poses as a challenge especially when the community goes on strike. The strikes cause delivery of raw material to be delayed, causing shortages of raw material at the processing plant. power supply, when Eskom applies load shedding stages, the mines that don’t have back up in the form of generators and are therefore forced to stop operations completely until power is restored.
